The OSCR race began life as a ski marathon in 1982 with a starting point in Ovando and ending in Seeley Lake. Today it's a 50km , 25km, and 10km race beginning and finishing at the Seeley Creek Nordic Ski Trails. Sometime a single loop and other times a double loop, OSCR incorporates the ski trails as well as groomed snowmobile trails.

The Seeley Lake Challenge Biathlon brings out all levels of skiers from rank beginners to experienced biathletes in a safe environment. We emphasize fun in this race and guarantee a good time combining the Montana traditions of guns and skis. Racers can choose from  3K, 9K, or 22K distances. For the 3K & 9K, the racers will ski a loop, shoot prone, ski a loop, shoot standing, and ski a final loop. Add additional prone and standing shooting bouts for the 22K. A gun safety clinic is provided prior to the race for novice biathletes and those wanting to brush up on their skill and comfort level with rifles.
